We recently spoke to Nick van der Vijver, buyer of green houseplants at Van Duyvenvoorde flowers & plants. He told us more about the purchasing process at Van Duyvenvoorde and what role the Floriday Explorer plays in it.
Van Duyvenvoorde flowers & plants has been exporting flowers and plants for 40 years. They work mainly with day trade, with about 75% being flowers and 25% plants. Nick knew from an early age what he wanted to do. He started with holiday work in the box and slowly rolled further into the business. He has now been working as a buyer of green houseplants for five years.
"Customers can fill order lists through our webshop. Based on these order lists, we purchase via auction and direct trade. For direct trade, we have selected growers we would like to do business with. We have divided these growers into market and customer groups and they are fed into our own system. We work with Florisoft. At present, the link is still through FloraXchange, but hard work is being done to connect Floriday to Florisoft through an API link."
More complete offering
Previously, FloraXchange was used to purchase items; van Duyvenvoorde now does this with the Floriday Explorer. "When I search by offer, I actually always use Floriday for this these days. We find that more and more growers are making the switch to Floriday. With this, the offer on Floriday is much more complete than on FloraXchange."
Search faster
"Of 75% of orders, I often know immediately whether it is available. For the remaining 25%, I open Floriday on my second screen. This works much faster than FloraXchange. Especially when many people are searching on FloraXchange, this can take quite a long time. The Explorer is a lot faster."
