With Floriday, we look for opportunities to simplify processes within the floriculture industry and make them more efficient. The supply chain sticker is a solution for more control and efficiency in the logistics process, for both growers and buyers. This is explained in this video and further explained below.

The supply chain sticker with unique lot reference is generated by the grower in Floriday and stuck on the barrels/boxes for each lot as early as possible in the chain. Bas La-Graauw, Floriday productowner: "Channel-independent supply thus becomes possible. Growers can move their product through Floriday in large flows to a remote location, such as Stock & Order Picking or a box at one of the hubs. Without having to decide in advance which sales channel to sell through or how much product they want to auction at what price, direct sales, etc. This gives them more flexibility and simplifies processes in the nursery."

More stickers = more waste

Logistics Consultant Michiel Holtman (Royal FloraHolland) is working on the roll-out of the supply chain sticker. Michiel: "Currently, growers are being asked to provide various stickers for different customers. As a result, two to three employees are regularly busy stickering. Identification is also often applied at the auction and by buyers themselves, so a cask sometimes contains as many as four to five stickers. This creates a lot of waste."

From growers' collective Zentoo, nursery Brasil is now running a pilot to test the supply chain sticker. They use a stock location at Royal FloraHolland for this purpose. Richard Duijvesteijn, owner of Kwekerij Brasil also states in the video: "With the supply chain sticker, I only have one process at the nursery, I can easily produce full carts and send them away at once without still having to decide how to sell the carts."

Less product knowledge required

"In turn, the buyer needs fewer employees with product knowledge to identify lots on a cart," Michiel continued. "After all, the barrels have a batch reference with the sticker. In addition, the buyer can use the unique reference on the sticker, in the form of a barcode, to control his logistics process: he can set up his indoor notification process and stock management accordingly."

Fully scan-driven working

The sticker allows fully scan-driven work. "This ensures fewer picking errors," Michiel believes. "Also, the sticker allows us to track lots well via Track & Trace. This way, customers know exactly where their product is at what time. And it also helps growers trace batches when necessary, for instance when something appears to be wrong with the quality. If necessary, timely action can then be taken."

The future of the supply chain sticker

Michiel concludes, "The supply chain sticker is useful in many processes, but it will never replace every sticker. Thus, retailers will probably always keep their own sticker towards consumers. But this supply chain sticker does help set up efficient logistics processes for growers and buyers."
