Bromelia Specialist: “One central location, including for logistics information”

“Do you still have any…?” and “Where is my delivery?” are the two questions most frequently asked of growers in this industry. We recently spoke to Robin Koesveld, logistics and procurement manager at Bromelia Specialist, about the transport information they would like to give their customers through Track & Trace.

Bromelia Specialist is a sales and marketing organisation made up of several Bromelia growers. Robin handles the entire logistics side of Bromelia Specialist. “At first, Floriday was only used for sales, back then I didn't have much to do with it myself. Now the logistics side is also coming on board on Floriday. So it really is becoming one central trading location, somewhere you can make an impression. I find that very positive!”

Track & Trace information for own transport

Floriday is in the process of making transport information updates available on Floriday. As part of this, growers who user their own transport can now see logistics updates on Floriday. Floriday makes it possible to scan carts at various points in the process and so provide customers with Track & Trace information. This is easy to do using Floriday's screens on a mobile phone. So no need to purchase scanning equipment. Bromelia Specialist has been doing this since the pilot.

Bromelia Specialist logistics process

“Bromelia Specialist's logistics are arranged out of one location in de Kwakel. It is there that all orders are prepared for the buyer. We use our own transport to drive to both Naaldwijk and Aalsmeer twice a day. Bunnik Logistics and Floriway complement this for deliveries to Rijnsburg, Bleiswijk, VRM and Plantion. Transport is in our own hands when we use our own vehicles. I found joining the pilot to be very interesting. By getting involved at an early stage, we can be part of developing a solution.”

Opportunities from Track & Trace information on Floriday

Robin explains why he sees many opportunities in making Track & Trace updates available on Floriday: "With the current Track & Trace information, you only get an update at the point the delivery is unloaded at the buyer's premises. This new approach on Floriday means you get advance notice that the van is loaded and on its way. This prevents lots of phone calls asking if the van has left yet. By updating on Floriday, you get one central location where everything is organised for both growers and exporters.”

Experiences with scanning

“The pilot went well. To begin with, the signs on the 10.80 floor, the distribution hall in Aalsmeer, were difficult to scan. Now this works seamlessly. We got some resistance from drivers at the start, saying that scanning takes up a lot of time. If you're loading 43 Danish trolleys and you multiply that by a few seconds each for scanning, it will feel slow to begin with. Luckily it's not so bad in practice.”

“At the moment, we are scanning with just one mobile phone. We hope to be able to use several people to do this in future, so the same operation can be done from different accounts. Our ambition is eventually to switch to scanning equipment. We already have these anyway, so it would be great if we could use them for Track & Trace information, too." Scanning with proprietary scanning equipment is also made possible by sending Track & Trace information to Floriday via the API.

Riza sales organisation

Bromelia Specialist recently launched the Riza sales organisation along with several other growers. “The new grower cooperative, Riza, consists of Bromelia Specialist, Karma Plants, Van der Voort Potplanten, Concorde Plants, Ter Laak Orchios and Maarel Orchids. We will be pooling our stock from 1 January 2025 and combining product knowledge and market expertise from a new joint perspective. We are also really keen to drive Floriday forward with this organisation. Orders go through Floriday hassle-free. Other orders require more manual work. This also now applies to the transport information that we will be updating for our own vehicles. If an order is being processed through Floriday, then we can add useful scanning information to it.”

The scanning option is now available to all growers. Discover what's possible on Floriday.
