Cybersecurity is crucial today. To protect the company, your employees and/or colleagues and the entire floriculture chain. But what exactly are the dangers you need to protect against? Here we list three forms of cybercrime that are the most common.
But first... what is cybersecurity?
Anyone who trades digitally sends important information back and forth to customers and associates every day via various means such as computers, smartphones or other online devices. Personal data, company data and financial data. These are also kept digitally within the company. Obviously, you don't want this information to be available to others, and you want to protect it from those who have bad intentions with it. In short, cybersecurity protects your digital 'home' and the digital pathways you use.
When protection is insufficient
With insufficient security around important information, cybercriminals can steal and reveal data, cause damage to systems, for example, and sometimes even take control. The consequences can range from a CHP being turned off due to a hack to financial losses and reputational damage. Therefore, be sure to digitally secure access to those techniques, technologies and processes. This can be done in various ways, such as with a strong password policy.
These 3 cybercrimes are the most common
Phishing
Cybercriminals pose as a trusted party with the aim of obtaining sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details. This is often done through emails, (WhatsApp) messages or websites that look legitimate but are actually deceptive. You are then usually urgently called to action, such as opening a link, updating account details or helping a family member. This is how the cybercriminal gains access to your account.
Ransomware
Ransomware is a form of malicious software (malware) that encrypts files or even entire systems. You won't get these (or access to them) back until you pay a ransom. This form of cybercrime can cause enormous damage to individuals, businesses and even government agencies.
Identity theft
This involves stealing personal information, such as name, address, date of birth and social security number, to carry out fraudulent activities, such as applying for loans, or making purchases on the victim's account. This information can be obtained through various methods, including data breaches, phishing and malware attacks.
Wondering how to protect yourself against these cybercrimes? In the next article in this series, we zoom in on the measures you can take to protect the company, your employees and/or colleagues and the entire floriculture chain.
What do we do for a digitally secure platform
Together with Royal FloraHolland, Floriday aims to provide users with a secure digital platform. That is why we invest in an environment that is resistant to attacks by cybercriminals. Royal FloraHolland is therefore one of the initiators of the Cyber Resilience Centre Greenport where we work with the entire sector on cybersecurity. We also offer growers and buyers the Royal FloraHolland Cyber subscription free of charge.
Cyber consultation
There is a free consultation hour especially for Royal FloraHolland members (every 2nd Tuesdag of the month). You can sign up here.
