Letting every partner in the chain access invaluable transport information sounds like an ideal situation. We spoke about the importance of sharing transport information all along the supply chain with Ton and Teun Buurman, owners and marketing directors at Floritrack.

Floritrack (part of BISIT) is a transport platform for floriculture transport companies, designed to improve efficiency in the floriculture sector. Teun: “The industry is facing a variety of challenges which we must address together. Floritrack enables accurate, efficient exchange and display of logistics information, making partnerships stronger and processes more compatible. This results in higher loading rates and fewer transport operations. Good for the wallet, the environment and pressure of work!

Transport information pilot

A transport information pilot is currently running involving Floriday, Floritrack and a number of transport companies. Delivery orders in Floriday are used to generate transport orders automatically and send them to the transport company's Transport Management System via Floritrack. Whenever a driver scans a delivery, orders and deliveries are updated with Track & Trace information on Floriday.

Ton: “The pilot has in fact been very useful so far. For example, data still doesn't always match up well, which requires adjustments. Good progress is being made in conjunction with Nover, Faber, De Wit and Floriway. The first priority is to migrate the transport orders from Floriday onto the system properly, and then return Track & Trace information. We are also looking more specifically with a number of carriers at the information sent, to identify the common denominator. The transport company requires certain details, which we can supply right away. We are exploring how we can make best use of this for everyone concerned.”

Analyse and optimise

As part of this pilot we are not only providing Track & Trace at the level of orders and deliveries, there are also other benefits in the process: "Growers don't need to enter logistics information a second time in the carrier's portal. There are also fewer mistakes. Data cannot be entered incorrectly when transferring from one system to another. Transport companies get accurate transport orders. The also arrive sooner, so no need to call to see if a collection is needed. And processes can be analysed and optimised using all that data. This applies to both transport companies and exporters.”

Building bridges together

Teun: “The collective interest of the industry is crucial. If everyone keeps data to themselves, this will not help the industry. We will soon be organising a meeting for transport companies in the industry to take up the challenge of everyone going digital. Floriday will also be coming here to talk about the importance of going digital. After all, the two most frequently asked questions in the industry are “Do you have any?” and “Where is my delivery?”. We can answer the latter using transport information. Let's all work together to provide everyone with the right information at the right time.”
